World of Warcraft's program stems from the business trend of gamification--employing game-like reward structures to entice an audience--and shows that even games themselves aren't exempt from being "gamified." This seemingly inside-out logic may work in the short term, but World of Warcraft and other companies considering similar strategies should be wary of overjustification--by offering too many rewards for playing, they risk making games a chore rather than a pleasure.
A few hours after announcing major changes across World of Warcraft, Blizzard has revealed some information which specifically affect Arena mode.
The most significant change is the transition to that Wild style to Standard that will limit the amount of cards you'll be able to access to. Blizzard stated on its forums "As increasing numbers of Arena cards become available making each game truly different is becoming harder to achieve."Many of the amazing synergies between card sets, like Jade Golems and Mechs are contained in each specific set release. Making decks that take advantage of these powerful synergies with a vast and diminished card pool is going to become increasingly challenging when you expand the Wild card pool expands. Arena runs will then become less about synergies with cards and smart deck selections rather than being lucky enough to buy WoTLK Gold get the most powerful card from every set. This shift should put the emphasis back on the player's ability to make the best, synergistic choices in Arena and make Arena decks appear more solid and cohesive."
